Dec. 17--A tow truck driver was shot to death Thursday morning on the South Side near the Chicago Skyway, officials said.
Emergency crews were called to near 6800 South King Drive at 8:50 a.m., near the border between the West Woodlawn and Park Manor neighborhoods, and found a 32-year-old man shot in the chest, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead, Estrada said.
He was identified as Lutredze Evans, of the 8300 block of South Rhodes Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The call initially came in as a pin-in accident, after the driver apparently crashed following the shooting, said Fire Department spokesman Cmdr. Curtis Hudson.
Evans was shot in the chest multiple times through the door of his tow truck, and was taken to Stroger, initially in "very critical" condition, Hudson said.
Area Central detectives were investigating, said Estrada, who did not immediately have information on the circumstances of the shooting.
