BRIEF: Tiger Woods to play in the Masters after nearly two-month layoff

April 03--Tiger Woods announced Friday he will play in the Masters next week at Augusta National.

"I'm playing in the Masters," Woods said on his website. "It's obviously very important to me, and I want to be there.

"I've worked a lot on my game and I'm looking forward to competing. I'm excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone's support."

In February, after a disappointing performance at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and withdrawing from the Farmers Insurance Open, Woods, 39, announced he would step away from golf until his play improved.

After a practice round at Augusta National earlier this week, the 14-time major winner has apparently deemed his game good enough for tournament play once again.

Woods has won the Masters four times with his last win coming in 2005. Last year, Woods skipped the tournament after having back surgery in March.

The Masters runs April 9-12.
