BRIEF: Tiger Woods starts fast, then slows at Greenbrier Classic

July 02--These days, it makes news when Tiger Woods has a few good holes.

So there was a bit of buzz Thursday morning when the former No. 1 player birdied three of the first seven at the Greenbrier Classic.

But a double-bogey heading for home sufficed to quiet the chatter as Woods stood at 1-under -- five strokes behind leaders Brian Davis and Ryo Ishikawa -- through early first-round play on the Old White Course.

After missing the cut at the U.S. Open, Woods looked sharper during Wednesday's pro-am and seemed hopeful about this week's tournament.

"Really looking forward to competing again and getting out here and playing," he said.
