BRIEF: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson attend first Ryder Cup task force meeting

Dec. 10--Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler were among the 11 members of a task force that met for the first time Tuesday to address ways of making the U.S. team more competitive in Ryder Cup play.

The four-hour gathering took place at PGA of America headquarters in Florida.

"We discussed a wide array of issues including selection process for captains and vice captains and more," PGA President Derek Sprague said in a statement, adding that Tuesday's meeting "was the beginning of a process that is designed to create the conditions for long-term Ryder Cup success."

The U.S. has lost eight of the last 10 matches against Europe in the biennial competition. This fall, the Americans suffered a resounding 16½ to 11½ defeat in Scotland.

No details were made public from Tuesday's meeting.

"We have more work to do and look forward to gathering again to complete the work of the task force," Sprague said. "Once we have significant news to report from these meetings, we will be happy to share that with you."

Other task force members include Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Raymond Floyd and Davis Love III.
