8 wounded in city shootings

April 22--Eight people were wounded in two shootings on the West Side on Thursday morning, police said.

Two people were shot in the 1300 block of East 75th Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood about 6 p.m. A 30-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with an abdomen wound and a 24-year-old was shot in the buttocks and arm and taken to Stroger Hospital. They were walking into a home when someone in a light-colored van fired shots and fled, police said.

A 36-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood about 4:50 p.m. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with an inner thigh wound from the shooting, which happened in the 1300 block of West 51st Street. Additional details weren't available.

About the same time, someone shot a 20-year-old man in the Bridgeport neighborhood. The man was grazed in the shooting, which happened in the 200 block of West 31st Street. Additional details weren't immediately available.

A 23-year-old man suffered a graze wound in a shooting on the 5500 block of West Parker Avenue about 3:15 p.m., police said. The man was standing in front of his house when two people approached on bikes. One took out a gun from a backpack and began shooting, police said. The man was grazed on the wrist, treated on the scene and released in good condition.

A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were shot at about 11:20 a.m. in the 2500 block of West 24th Place in South Lawndale, police said. The 19-year-old was shot in his leg, and the 17-year-old was shot in his arm. They went to Mount Sinai Hospital and were stabilized.

Earlier, in Austin, a 45-year-old man was shot in the arm. He was driving in the 1100 block of North LeClaire Avenue about 8:40 a.m. when he heard shots and was struck, according to the Chicago Police Department. The man went to West Suburban Hospital and was stable, police said.

No one is in custody in either incident.
