April 08--Three lanes of the southbound 605 Freeway in Lakewood reopened Wednesday morning nearly 12 hours after a tanker truck overturned and spilled more than 2,000 gallons of fuel on the roadway.
The carpool and No. 1 lane reopened shortly before 9 a.m., and the No. 2 lane reopened around 11:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The other two lanes remained closed until further notice.
The CHP estimated that 2,868 gallons of fuel spilled onto freeway lanes when the fuel tanker truck, which was carrying 8,800 gallons, overturned Tuesday night.
As of 6:20 a.m., crews were finally able to upright the truck, CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy said.
Lanes of the freeway have been closed since 9:46 p.m. Tuesday when the tanker collided with another vehicle at Carson Street.
A cleaning crew responded to the crash when fuel began leaking into a storm drain, according to the CHP.
