BRIEF: Three killed in small-plane crash in Virginia

March 04--Three people are dead after a small plane crashed in a botanical garden early Wednesday morning in southeastern Virginia.

The plane lost communication with Norfolk International Airport about 4:30 a.m. as it was flying in the Hampton Roads region, according to a statement from the Virginia State Police.

The Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Coast Guard and state police searched for the missing plane and found the wreckage at 7:30 a.m. in a wooded section of the Norfolk Botanical Garden.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, said Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
