1 dead, 9 wounded in shootings

April 15--A man was fatally shot and at least nine other people have been wounded in separate shootings on the South and West sides since Thursday afternoon, police said.

A 25-year-old man was shot to death about 12:10 a.m. Friday in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

Police officers responded to calls of a person shot in the 6500 block of South Western Avenue where they found the man lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No one was immediately in custody as a result of the shooting.

Most recently, a 36-year-old man was wounded in a shooting about 1:10 a.m. Friday in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was standing on a sidewalk in the 0-100 block of South Mayfield Avenue when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck, Alfaro said.

The man suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 10:20 p.m. Thursday, a 19-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The man was on the sidewalk in the 7800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue when he got into an argument with a male attacker who then shot him, Alfaro said.

The man was hit in the right hand and right ankle. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 9:55 p.m., a 20-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The man was standing on the front porch of a home in the 9200 block of South Ellis Avenue when a male attacker inside a dark-colored sedan fired shots, Alfaro said.

The man was shot in the lower back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 9:40 p.m., a 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood, Alfaro said.

The two were walking through a parking lot in the 5500 block of West Corcoran Place when they heard gunshots and realized they were struck.

The woman was shot in the left arm and was grazed in the back. She was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, and she was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where her condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

The man was shot in the abdomen, and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 4:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot on the 9300 block of South Woodlawn Avenue in the Burnside neighborhood, police said.

The man was shot in the back, shoulder and neck and managed to get himself to Trinity Hospital, where his condition stabilized, according to police.

The victim was in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside began firing, striking the victim, who is a known gang member, police said.

About 4:15 p.m., a 23-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The man was in the 5300 block of South Morgan Street when a light-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside it fired shots, Alfaro said.

The man was shot in the ankle. He managed to get himself to St. Bernard Hospital Healthcare Center, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

At 3:30 p.m. two people were injured in the 5700 block of West Iowa Street in the Austin neighborhood, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left shoulder and left ear and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said. A 21-year-old man suffered a graze wound but refused treatment and was released on the scene.

Both of the victims are gang members and were being uncooperative with police.
