BRIEF: Thief grabs 10 iPhones at South Coast Plaza store and flees

Feb. 11--Costa Mesa police are looking for a man they think made off with at least 10 iPhones from the Apple store in South Coast Plaza Wednesday night.

The man, who police think is in his 20s, allegedly grabbed 10 to 15 iPhone 6 models that were on display and fled the Costa Mesa store at about 7:20 p.m., said Sgt. Patrick Wessel.

Security workers chased him outside and watched him drive off in a blue sedan that was waiting in the parking lot, Wessel said.

The stolen iPhones are worth about $5,000, police estimated.

Police are checking the security cameras from the mall, but so far do not have any suspects.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call the Costa Mesa Detective Bureau at 714-754-5637.
