Jan. 19--It's been over six months since the mammoth ill-fated arena tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's "Jesus Christ Superstar" was set to play the United Center. That 51-city tour, of course, was cancelled.
But "everything's alright." Instead of performing to tens of thousands of spectators on Madison St., the biblical rock musical will be seen by about sixty people a night in Rogers Park, courtesy of Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre. The theater announced casting on Monday.
Playing Jesus and Mary Magdalene respectively are Max DeTogne and Danni Smith. Donterrio Johnson will play the role of Judas.
Also featured are Ryan Armstrong as Pilate, Tommy Bullington as Herod, Jonah Winston as Caiaphas, Michael Ferraro as Peter and Caleb Baze as Simon. The ensemble includes Will Wilhelm, Sharriese Hamilton, Steven Perkins, Jomar Ferraras and Khaki Pixley.
Fred Anzevino directs the production, musical direction is by Jeremy Ramey and Brenda Didier will provide choreography.
Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre's "Jesus Christ Superstar" begins performances on March 6 at the No Exit Cafe, 6970 N. Glenwood Ave., and continues through April 12.
