Aug. 19--The much-buzzed about Sundance horror flick "The Witch" by Robert Eggers finally has an angst-riddled trailer. Filled with unsettling pauses, vanishing babies and troublesome goats, this frontier horror film meditates on the terror of the unknown wilderness in 1630, and the haunting things that go bump in the woods.
Set in a remote New England forest, the plot follows an isolated family and their solitary life in the woods. But when a string of bad luck hits the farm and the family's newborn son goes missing, the quiet frontier life descends into paranoia and madness. What's causing these awful acts? And, more importantly, what's in the woods?
"The Witch" churned up a fair amount of attention at Sundance when it premiered. But whether ye olde nightmares will play with a modern-day audience remains to be seen.
The indie film doesn't have a release date, but the first trailer ends with a "coming in 2016," so we'll have to wait to find out what evil lies in the woods of "The Witch."
