Aug. 17--Soon you can visit the Vatican without leaving the States, because the Vatican comes to Philadelphia in September. "Vatican Splendors" opens at The Franklin Institute on Sept. 19, a week before Pope Francis arrives, and it runs through Feb. 15. The multisensory exhibit gives visitors a glimpse of the Vatican and its impact over 2,000 years from its underground catacombs to the papal chambers and the grand basilica. Highlights include a touchable cast of Pope John Paul II's hand; tools used by Michelangelo in his work on the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica; frescoes; mosaics; and bone fragments of Saints Peter and Paul. Admission tickets are timed. Daytime admission, which includes general admission to the museum, is $34.95 (for ages 12 and up). Evening admission is for the exhibit only and is $22.95.
