Jan. 11--Residents of Harvey and East St. Louis have among the worst credit scores in the nation, according to a new study.
Personal finance website WalletHub examined the average credit scores of residents in 2,570 U.S. cities to determine which had the highest and the lowest, and found that Harvey and East St. Louis were among those at the bottom, ranking 2,568th and 2,569th, respectively.
Bringing up the rear: Camden, N.J. Its residents have an average credit score of 566.
The bottom 20 included Maywood and Dolton.
WalletHub compared the average credit scores of residents in each of the cities using TransUnion data as of September.
The city of Chicago ranked 2,137th. The average score of its residents was 642.
The Illinois city whose residents have the highest score is Wilmette, at No. 15. The average there is 743.
The U.S. city whose residents have the highest credit score is the Villages in Florida, at 780.
