Aug. 03--A 15-year-old girl was fatally shot in Gary late Sunday, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
Daja Brookshire, 15, was pronounced dead just before 11:30 p.m. at Methodist Northlake Hospital.
She had been shot in the 700 block of Adams Street, according to the coroner's office.
Gary police were called to Methodist Northlake about 9:30 p.m. Sunday and found that the girl had died, according to a release from Gary police.
Police interviewed people who had been with Daja when she was shot and were told that when they were near 7th Avenue and Adams Street in Gary, a vehicle followed them for a while, and then someone fired shots, according to the release. The driver noticed Daja was bleeding and drove her to the hospital.
Gary police referred further questions to the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit.
