BRIEF: Tech entrepreneur's Evanston home sells for $1 million

Jan. 13--A five-bedroom, 3,200-square-foot house in Evanston that Chicago technology entrepreneur Roger Covey owned until his death sold Dec. 7 for exactly $1 million.

Covey, who died in 2013 at age 58, founded System Software Associates, a Chicago-based software provider, in 1981 and later took the firm public. Covey left System Software Associates in 1998 amid an accounting scandal and then pursued a career as a scholar of East Asian art history. He was later president of the Tang Research Foundation and edited a book with a former professor.

Covey's stepmother, who is also listed on the deed, sold his longtime home, which he had purchased in 2002 for $899,000. Built in 1871, the house has 3 1/2 baths, a finished basement, a new roof, all-copper plumbing and a fireplace.

The house was first listed for $1.25 million. Covey's stepmother later reduced the price to $1.15 million before finding a buyer.

Listing agent Ginger Cavalier of @properties declined to comment on the sale.
