Aug. 26--Teatro Vista has announced its 25th season, featuring a slate of premieres celebrating Latino culture.
The season opens with the Chicago premiere of "My Manana Comes," (Oct. 3 -- Nov. 8) by Elizabeth Irwin, directed by Sandra Marquez. In this tale of immigrant workers, four busboys cling to dreams outside of the back-of-house grind.
Next up is Brian Quijada's "Where Did We Sit on the Bus?" (March 10 -- April 10). This world premiere, directed by Victory Gardens Theater's artistic director Chay Yew, is a one-man, hip-hop play that examines the experience of Latino millennials.
The Chicago premiere of "In the Time of Butterflies," (April 16 -- May 22) by Caridad Svich, closes out the season. Artistic director Ricardo Gutierrez directs this play, based on Julia Alvarez's novel of the same name, about the Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic who inspired resistance cells against a dictatorial regime.
"My Manana Comes" and "In the Time of Butterflies will be performed at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. "Where Did We Sit on the Bus?" will take place at the Storefront Theater, 66 E. Randolph St.
