BRIEF: Taxi crashes into home: 'That's not where the car is supposed to be'

Dec. 01--A taxi plowed into the bedroom of a Glendale Heights home overnight, trapping a man who had been sleeping as the cabdriver ran away, according to authorities.

"That's not where the car is supposed to be," Bloomingdale Fire Battalion Chief Rich Kurka said.

The cab crashed through the wall of the home in the 1800 block of Gregory Avenue in the west suburb around 1 a.m., authorities said.

"We got a report of a car into a house. We arrived. This taxi went through the side of the house. There was one known victim. He self-extricated," Kurka said.

The resident, a 53-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the cab was gone when fire crews arrived.

Cheryl Grisch wasn't home when the car came crashing into her home. Grisch said she was "pretty (expletive)" at what happened.

"He ran away, all I know is they're looking for them. My dad and my dog were both trapped under a wall. They're both OK, though," she said.
