Aug. 05--Get ready to say goodbye to State Street's CityTarget store, and say hello to its replacement -- a Target.
The Minnesota-based big-box retailer is rebranding its smaller, urban CityTarget and TargetExpress stores as regular Targets, it revealed Tuesday in a blog post.
Target moved into the landmark Louis Sullivan Center building on State Street -- previously occupied by Carson Pirie Scott -- under the CityTarget brand in 2012, as part of a plan to woo urbanites and compete with Wal-Mart's Market and Express store concepts.
Despite the rebranding, the firm says it remains committed to expanding into inner-city areas. A planned Streeterville TargetExpress, which is due to open in the fall, will still open but will now also use the regular Target branding, the company said.
Using the same name for all stores will help it in "keeping things simple," it said.
