BRIEF: Swimmer dead after being pulled from Lake Michigan

July 25--A 17-year-old boy who died after being pulled from the lake on the South Side has been identified, officials said.

Eddie Horns, of the 2900 block of South Federal Street, was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m. at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is slated for Saturday, according to the office.

Chicago Police Marine Unit officers were called to the 700 block of East 31st Street after a swimmer was in distress, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

The teen was taken to Mercy Hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead later, police said.

No other details were immediately available.
