BRIEF: Swarm of bees descends on Pasadena middle school graduation ceremony

June 04--A swarm of bees attacked students and families during a graduation ceremony Wednesday evening at Pasadena High School, stinging four people.

Three adults and a child were stung by the bees about 6:30 p.m. during the Sierra Madre Middle School graduation ceremony, officials said. They were treated at the scene.

The bees were swarming around a hive built on a utility vault at the high school when they suddenly descended on the large crowd, attacking families at the ceremony.

Hoping to control the frenzied bees, firefighters sprayed foam on the hive, according to the Pasadena Fire Department.

Fire spokeswoman Lisa Derderian told the Pasadena Star News that the swarm was more defensive because of the drought.
