Aug. 10--Behind a strong effort from Jake Arrieta -- at the plate and on the mound -- the Cubs won for the 10th time in 11 games and lead the Giants by 31/2 games for the second National League wild-card berth after their 2-0 victory Sunday. The Giants have lost eight of 12.
At the plate
Arrieta hit a stand-up triple in the second, then slid home to score on Addison Russell's sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. Kris Bryant's bloop single to right had scored Kyle Schwarber in the first.
On the mound
Arrieta gave up four hits and two walks and struck out six in 72/3 innings to earn the victory. In his last 10 starts, he has a 1.23 ERA, 69 strikeouts, 18 walks, a .163 batting average against and a 0.80 WHIP.
