BRIEF: Summit death is first from cold in Cook County for season

Dec. 03--A homeless man was found dead by Summit police Monday in the first cold-related death of the season in Cook County, according to the county medical examiner's office.

William Kuzma, 57, was pronounced dead at 9:43 a.m. on or near a Southbound ramp of Interstate 55 near First Avenue in Summit, office spokeswoman Becky Schlikerman said.

Following an autopsy Tuesday, the office determined the man died of hypothermia due to cold exposure, with chronic alcoholism and heart disease contributing factors, Schlikerman said. Summit police could not be reached for comment.
