BRIEF: Stomach virus spurs quarantine at Cook County Jail

Feb. 11--A quarantine of four divisions at Cook County Jail was ordered after 36 detainees came down with a stomach virus, said officials.

About 3,650 detainees being housed at Division II, Division III-Annex, Division VIII and Division X are under the quarantine that began Wednesday, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff's office.

Under the quarantine, detainees in those division are limited to where they can navigate in the jail. Their living quarters, dining areas, showers, toilets and any surface areas are being regularly disinfected, and linens were being washed separately from the rest of the jail, the release said.

Friends and family of detainees housed in quarantined divisions are asked to use the Cook County inmate locator at CookCountySheriff.org to check the status of visitation.
