BRIEF: Stevenson student with unloaded gun is in police custody, high school says

Dec. 04--Stevenson High School officials said a student brought an unloaded gun onto campus Friday morning and the student is in Lincolnshire police custody.

"After receiving a tip from some of our students, we learned that this student had a gun and we acted immediately," said District 125 Superintendent Eric Twadell in a statement. "We're grateful for the professionalism of our faculty, safety and security team, and the Lincolnshire PD. Most of all we are thankful that no one was injured, and that the situation was resolved within minutes."

Classes and activities will continue as scheduled, the statement said, and Lincolnshire police have assured school officials that the campus is secure.

"Our actions today were informed by similar situations that have occurred around the country in recent months," the statement read. "As always our number one priority is ensuring student safety."

A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m.
