Nov. 12--Loyola University filled its athletic-director vacancy Wednesday with the hiring of Steve Watson.
Watson, 46, comes to Loyola from St. Bonaventure, where he served in that capacity for seven years.
"When I first spoke with Tom Kelly (Senior Vice President for Administrative Services) about Loyola, I knew very quickly that this could be the perfect fit," Watson said in a statement. "It is a great school, in a great city, with great people".
Loyola President and CEO Michael J. Garanzini, S.J. added in a statement:
"Steve Watson brings tremendous experience and enthusiasm to Loyola. He impressed us with his ability to build and sustain a successful intercollegiate athletic program, especially in basketball."
Watson succeeds Dr. M. Grace Calhoun, who resigned in March to take a similar position at Pennsylvania.
