BRIEF: Steve Sarkisian supports university's decision to keep Bryce Dixon off team

Aug. 14--USC Coach Steve Sarkisian said Friday that he backed the school's action regarding Bryce Dixon, who the university said would be allowed to re-enroll as a student but not participate in football.

"We support the university's decision," Sarkisian said after the team's morning practice. "We want what's in the best interest of the student-athlete, as well."

Dixon, who caught four touchdown passes as a freshman last season, was expelled in May after a USC investigation of alleged sexual misconduct.

He filed a petition in court on Wednesday requesting a stay of the expulsion. Among his claims was that USC's sexual-misconduct investigation process is "utterly lacking" in due process.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge had issued a written order that put Dixon's expulsion on hold.

USC announced Thursday night that it would comply with the order but not reinstate Dixon to the team.

Asked if he was disappointed that Dixon would not rejoin the team, Sarkisian said, "It's not about disappointment, it's about supporting the university and their decision.... It wouldn't have been about joy and excitement if he would be here, it's not about disappointment if he's not. It is what it is."
