Nov. 12--Comic actor Steve Martin has sold his Caribbean retreat in St. Barthelemy for an undisclosed price. The property had been listed at $7.78 million.
The hilltop estate, which the comedian bought in 2007, takes in panoramic views of the bay of Saint Jean and the islands of St. Martin and Anguilla. A four-bedroom Colonial-style house with an open floor plan is surrounded by multiple terraces, a two-tiered infinity pool and lush tropical gardens.
Built on one level, the 3,000-square-foot home features vaulted beamed ceilings, a gourmet kitchen that opens an indoor dining room and outdoor dining space with a second kitchen and barbecue. The master suite has an outdoor shower, a private deck and a spa.
Walls slide away to open the house to the swimming pool and unobstructed vistas.
A lily pond surrounds a garden gazebo. The property also includes a caretaker's home.
The Emmy- and Grammy-winning Martin, 70, starred in such films as "The Jerk" (1979), "Bowfinger" (1999) and "Shop Girl" (2005). He is a writer, producer and professional banjo player.
Christian Wattiau of Sibarth Real Estate, an affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate, handled the transaction.
