BRIEF: Steve Kerr will resume Warriors head coaching duties Friday night

Jan. 22--Steve Kerr is ready to again take over head coaching duties of the Golden State Warriors, the team announced Friday.

After missing most of training camp and more than half the regular season while recovering from complications following two back surgeries, Kerr will return to duty Friday night against the Indiana Pacers at Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Last year, Kerr led the Warriors to a franchise-record 67 regular-season victories and a franchise-first NBA championship.

With assistant coach Luke Walton serving as interim head coach, Golden State got off to a league-record 24-0 start and is now 39-4. Only the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls (40-3) had a better record after 43 games.

Since Kerr technically has been the head coach all season, all of those games count toward his career record. Walton, who was the league's coach of the month in November, officially remains 0-0 as a head coach.

A win Friday would be the Warriors' 38th straight at home, a mark that would tie the 1985-86 Celtics for third-best all time.
