Feb. 12--Steve Harvey will discuss the impact of Chicago violence and explore possible solutions in an episode of his talk show slated to air Monday, a representative for his show said Friday.
President Barack Obama's senior adviser Valerie Jarrett joins the town-hall-style conversation via satellite from the White House. Also weighing in are Pastor Corey Brooks, of New Beginnings Church; the Rev. Michael Pfleger, of St. Sabina Catholic Church; Elizabeth Dozier, former principal at Fenger High School in the Roseland neighborhood; and Brandon Jackson and Curtis Toler, whom "Steve Harvey" producers identify as former gang members.
At least 50 homicides were reported in Chicago in January, the deadliest start to a year since at least 2000, which is as far back as publicly available city statistics go. The hourlong episode was filmed Jan. 28.
"Steve Harvey," which tapes at the WMAQ-Ch. 5 studios, airs weekdays on WMAQ-Ch. 5 at 2 p.m.
