State: Person tested for Ebola, results come back negative

Nov. 30--Illinois officials said they tested a person who had travelled to the state from Liberia for the Ebola virus and the test results came back negative.

In a press release from the Illinois Department of Public Health Saturday, the agency's director, Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck, said that the person had arrived in Illinois Nov. 16, was tested and "was determined to be asymptomatic and low risk at the time."

The agency had continued monitoring the individual for symptoms since that time, and once the person reported having a fever Nov. 27, he was taken to a hospital and tested for Ebola. Those results came back negative.

The release did not give any additional information about the individual who was tested "to respect and protect the individual's privacy." That includes the person's age, gender, where the person lives, or where the person arrived in Illinois.

When asked for additional information, a spokeswoman sent an email with identical wording, giving no explanation as to how the person's age, sex, area of the state where the person lives or where the person arrived in Illinois could be considered private information.

In the release, the agency said that there have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in the state and "there is no threat to the general public."
