BRIEF: Wednesday's recap: Cubs 3, Rockies 2

July 30--Jon Lester struck out a season-high 14 in eight innings Wednesday to lead the Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Rockies at Wrigley Field. Dexter Fowler and Anthony Rizzo home runs in the first three innings to provided the offense.

Good eye

Fowler reached base safely in his first three at-bats with his homer and two walks as he continues to show better plate discipline.

Comeback kid

Hector Rondon earned his first save since June 20.

In the field

Catcher David Ross threw out speedy Jose Reyes on a steal attempt in the first inning.

Pivotal at-bat

Lester retired Charlie Blackmon on a fly to left with the tying run at second on his 117th pitch to end the eighth.
