June 16--It was 4 a.m. and most revelers had left town, but Adam Kirkenmeier and his brother were not giving up: They were on the hunt for the Cup.
As they scrolled social media for the latest rumors, the brothers waited at Rockit in the Loop after hearing the team might be headed there after clinching their third Stanley Cup in six years.
Then there was word that black limos and SUVs were gathering at the United Center and they rushed there in time to follow the team to the Mid, a club on Halsted in the West Loop.
By 5 a.m. they joined a small group of faithful fans and a clutch of news cameras outside the Mid.
"I've been a fan since I've been 10 years old" Kirkenmeier said. "You can say the Hawks are Chicago's team."
By 5:45 a.m., the team headed out and Kirkenmeier and his brother were rewarded with a brief glimpse of the Cup being carried out by the team under a police escort.
The Blackhawks piled back into their limos and SUVs and headed back to the United Center, followed by two cars filled with fans.
At least one of them was finally ready to call it a night. "The cup is home, so I'm going home," he said.
