Jan. 07--Calorie counters in the South Loop, beware: Stan's Donuts Coffee is on the way.
The California import will open its fourth Chicago location in the super-hot South Loop later this month on Roosevelt Road.
The shop, which also serves soft serve gelato and is brought to Chicago by restaurateur Rich Labriola, will join current outposts in Wicker Park, Streeterville and East Lakeview.
"The South Loop ... it's a great up and coming neighborhood," said Labriola. "We found that heavy volume of foot traffic is what we need to be successful for our business model."
The new shop, which is modeled after a contemporary diner, is joining a slew of new housing and retail planned and developed in the South Loop in recent years. Last year, four developers announced plans to build high-rise apartment buildings in the neighborhood and a Portillo's restaurant -- the second within the city's limits -- is also planned to open this year.
Labriola said that by the end of the year, he hopes to open three to four new Stan's locations, including the South Loop and possibly one in the suburbs.
