July 07--Spring Hill Mall's owners hope to begin an overhaul later this year that will include an eight-screen movie theater, dining spaces and revamped retail spaces.
Rouse Properties, which has been meeting with municipal leaders in West Dundee and Carpentersville, formally announced the proposed project Tuesday. The makeover is estimated to cost nearly $40 million.
It would include an entertainment and dining pavilion, featuring a Cinemark theater that would open in the spring of 2017, and an exterior plaza with seating. Plans also call for reconfiguring about 25,000 square feet of enclosed mall space near a vacant JCPenney store to outward-facing retail space.
The 1.2 million-square-foot enclosed single-level mall, completed in 1980, is anchored by Macy's, Carson Pirie Scott, Sears and Kohl's.
