BRIEF: Spring break fires at Redlands High believed to be arson

March 18--A school bus was destroyed and a classroom nearly burned to the ground at Redlands High School early Wednesday, the work of an apparent arsonist.

The Redlands Fire Department was dispatched about 4 a.m. after someone apparently set fire to a bus in the bus yard adjacent to the campus, said Battalion Chief David Graves.

The blaze engulfed the bus and its heat "significantly damaged" the bus next to it, he said.

Minutes later, a passerby told firefighters that a portable classroom on the campus was on fire.

Crews also found that a nearby Spanish classroom and others had been broken into as part of an apparent attempted burglary, Graves said.

The blazes appeared to have been deliberately set, Graves said. No one was injured and no one has been arrested.

Authorities are checking campus security cameras with the hope of getting a clear view of the person or persons responsible, Graves said. One classroom was destroyed and a second suffered significant damage, he said.

The school is currently on spring break.
