BRIEF: Spring Awakening festival may head to Jackson Park

Feb. 03--Spring Awakening, an electronic dance music festival typically held at Soldier Field, may be heading to Jackson Park on the South Side, a Chicago Park District spokeswoman said.

Soldier Field is one of a few venues hosting Copa America Centenario, an international soccer tournament, in June when Spring Awakening is typically held. SFX Entertainment, the festival's organizer, has been conditionally approved for a permit at Jackson Park in the Woodlawn community, Park District spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner said.

It's unclear when the weekend festival will be held. Permit applications in the city's data portal cover May 30-June 16. A rep for SFX did not return Tribune requests for comment.

A 19-year-old man died of a drug overdose after attending Spring Awakening last year, an autopsy determined.
