BRIEF: Spicy M debut in stores but may not stay for long

March 30--Spicy, sweet and java: Peanut M have a few new twists.

Peanut M, first introduced in 1954, now come in three new flavors: Honey Nut, Coffee Nut and Chili Nut. But only one of those flavors will remain on store shelves this fall. The winner will be determined by a customer vote.

Consumers are now being asked to sample the new flavors at retailers nationwide and vote for their favorite by June 17 at www.peanutflavor.mms.com or by texting the word "Vote" to 87654.

Although there's a growing trend toward more clean and simple food ingredients, many packaged food companies have introduced new flavors to spur growth and customer loyalty. Potato chips brand Lay's, for example, has run similar contests to decide on the next often-outlandish flavor, including Southern biscuits and gravy and Reuben.
