Nov. 03--The Chicago White Sox claimed outfielder J.B. Shuck off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Monday.
Shuck, a 27-year-old left-handed hitter, spent most of the 2014 season with the Triple-A team for the Los Angeles Angels, hitting .320 with 18 doubles, nine triples, five home runs, 57 RBIs and 64 runs scored over 102 games. He played in 38 major league games between the Angels and Indians last season, hitting just .145 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
Shuck is a career .264 hitter with 51 RBIs and 81 runs scored in 204 major league games over three seasons. A former player at Ohio State, he was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Astros in the 2008 draft.
In other moves, the Sox reinstated right-handed pitcher Nate Jones from the 60-day disabled list. Jones, who made just two appearances in 2014, had ulnar collateral ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow on July 29.
Last week, the Sox declined the $4 million club option on right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino, who became a free agent. Their 40-man roster sits at 37.
