BRIEF: Southern California rain: Big rig crashes, dangles from overpass

Dec. 03--Crews are working to pull a big rig dangling from the eastbound 91 Freeway overpass in Anaheim.

California Highway Patrol officials said rain probably caused the big rig emblazoned with an American flag to crash into the freeway's side rail about 3 p.m.

Crews planned to use a big-rig tow to pull the massive load and keep it from falling onto FasTrak lanes below on California 55, CHP Officer John Latosquin said.

Meanwhile, the CHP had closed FasTrak lanes on the northbound 55 to the eastbound 91 and westbound 91 to the southbound 55.

Two lanes were also closed on the eastbound 91.

In Los Angeles County, a big rig crash on the southbound 405 Freeway created headaches for drivers.

The big rig crashed about 2:42 p.m. into the center divider on the freeway at Santa Fe Avenue, briefly impacting the southbound and northbound carpool lanes, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

In the Los Angeles region, CHP logged 118 collisions from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the same period last Tuesday, there were only 69 collisions, Kimball said.
