July 07--One lane of the southbound 5 Freeway reopened in the City of Commerce on Tuesday morning, more than five hours after a fire broke out along a riverbed and snarled traffic on both sides of the busy roadway.
Three lanes remained closed around 6:45 a.m. and it was unclear when they would reopen, the California Highway Patrol said.
The northbound 5 Freeway was reopened just before 5 a.m.
Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the blaze near the Slauson Avenue exit just after 11:30 p.m. Monday, said Dispatch Supervisor Ray Dong.
A SigAlert was issued for the 5 Freeway at East Slauson shortly before midnight on Monday, according to the CHP.
