16-year-old boy killed, five other people wounded in shootings in Chicago

Dec. 01--A 16-year-old boy was killed and five other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Monday through early Tuesday, police said.

The boy was shot several times in the chest around 1:05 a.m. Tuesday inside a home in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

He was discovered in the hallway of an apartment in a four-story building in the 800 block of East 83rd Street, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead, police said.

No one was in custody, police said.

Other shootings:

--About 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, a 33-year-old man walked into Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey after getting shot in Chicago's Fernwood neighborhood on the Far South Side, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

The man was standing in the 10300 block of South Wentworth Avenue when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck, Gaines said.

The man was shot in the abdomen and managed to get to a hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Gaines said.

--Around 11:05 p.m. Monday, a 40-year-old man was wounded in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, Alfaro said.

The man was standing on the sidewalk in the 2900 block of West 40th Street when he was hit in the left cheek. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Alfaro said.

No one was in custody.

--At 7:10 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot on the West Side in the 3300 block of West Flournoy Street, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The teen was grazed in the arm and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sweeney said.

--On the Northwest Side, a 24-year-old man was shot in the head in the 4700 block of North Kimball Avenue about 5:30 p.m., police said. The shooting took place across the street from the CTA's Brown Line Kimball train station.

The man was standing on the sidewalk when someone emerged from an alley and fired shots, Alfaro said. The man was shot in the head, right arm and right thigh. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

--On the South Side, a 25-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when someone got out of a silver car and opened fire, hitting the man in the right leg about 9:30 a.m. in the 800 block of West 54th Street. The attacker got back into the car and fled, police said.

Fire officials said he was taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.
