BRIEF: South Side man charged in July shooting

Aug. 11--A South Side man has been charged with shooting two people last month in the Brainerd neighborhood, police said Tuesday.

Christopher Kirby, 21, of the 1700 block of West 90th Street, has been charged with one count of aggravated battery.

About 3:05 a.m. July 19, Kirby approached people in the 9100 block of South Ashland Avenue and fired shots, police said, striking a 25-year-old man in the face and buttocks and a 30-year-old woman in the chest. Both were taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Kirby is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
