BRIEF: South Chicago Heights fire displaces 24 people

Jan. 30--Two dozen people were displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment building in south suburban South Chicago Heights early Friday.

The blaze started around 1:30 a.m. inside a two-story building in the 3000 block of Chicago Road, said South Chicago Heights Fire Chief Larry Nardoni.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about an hour, Nardoni said.

No injuries were reported. But 24 people were displaced as a result of the fire and are being helped by the American Red Cross, he said.

The blaze caused an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in damage to the building, Nardoni said.
