April 23--PITTSBURGH -- The Chicago Cubs have seven players on the 15-day disabled list, but one of the biggest accomplishments of the medical staff is keeping Jorge Soler healthy.
Soler played in only 86 games last year at four levels because of hamstring injuries to both legs.
Since the start of spring training, Soler has played fearlessly, whether it's diving for balls hit in the gap in right center or running from first to third base.
Soler made his 14th start Wednesday night, but manager Joe Maddon is wise enough to realize that built-in days off and an April 7 rainout have enabled Soler to rest his legs.
"With the season in progress, I definitely want to be able to rest these guys at an opportune moment," Maddon said. "But for right now, based on the schedules, the frequent off-days at this moment, I think he's OK.
"I do listen. If the trainers suggest he might need a day (off), I definitely would do it."
