BRIEF: Snow expected overnight

Jan. 24--Snow is expected to return overnight to most of the Chicago area, with 2 to 4 inches likely, according to the National Weather Service.

Except for areas far north near the Wisconsin border, at least 2 inches can be expected to fall until around 6 p.m. Sunday, according to weather service meteorologist Amy Seeley.

There's also a slight chance of snow until Monday night, Seeley said.

Highs are expected to be in the low 30s the next several days, Seeley said, with a warm-up possible later in the week. Wednesday's forecast is a high of 36 degrees.

Compared with last January, Chicago has seen relatively little snow this month, with 10.9 inches recorded at O'Hare so far, Seeley said.

By Jan. 24 last year, Chicagoans endured 30.3 inches of snow, Seeley said.

January 2014 made it into the history books as the third-most-snowy month in Chicago since snowfall record-keeping began in 1884.

Ahead of January 2014's 33.5 inches of snow are January 1918, with 42.5 inches, and January 1979, with 40.4 inches, according to the weather service.
