BRIEF: 'SNL' star drew inspiration for short film from Chicago fabric store

Feb. 10--"Saturday Night Live" star Aidy Bryant said she drew inspiration for her upcoming short film "Darby Forever" from a Chicago fabric store.

"I would get fabric for shows I was doing at Second City. And so this woman who would cut the fabric for me would always be like, 'What's this fabric for?' And I would say, 'Second City for a show I'm doing,' " Bryant, 28, told Seth Meyers in Tuesday's "Late Night" episode.

"And she would get this little Hollywood, like, showbiz excitement and be like, 'Oh really?' And so I always, like, loved thinking about her kind of imagining what I was doing."

Bryant plays a daydreaming fabric store worker in the 20-minute film, which also features Natasha Lyonne ("Orange is the New Black") and the comedian Retta ("Parks and Recreation"). The film is slated to be released Feb. 18 via Vimeo.

Bryant, who studied at Columbia College, also trained at iO Theater. She joined "SNL" in 2012.
