BRIEF: Small plane lands on freeway in Ventura County, shocking (and delaying) motorists

Jan. 12--A small aircraft made an emergency landing Monday along the southbound 23 Freeway in Ventura County, authorities said.

The two-seat plane landed shortly after 4:30 p.m. in the lanes near Tierra Rejada Road, near Moorpark, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Vehicles had to swerve to avoid hitting the plane, according to the CHP.

Two people were on board the plane, according to a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. No injuries were reported, said Capt. Mike Lindberry of the Ventura County Fire Department.

Aerial footage from KTLA-TV Channel 5 showed heavy traffic backups in the area.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board representatives were en route to the scene.

The plane was pushed into the center median separating the freeway while awaiting federal aviation authorities' arrival, according to the CHP.
