BRIEF: Small plane crash-lands on Pomona roof; pilot is taken to hospital

May 09--A pilot was injured Sunday afternoon when he crashed his small single-engine plane on the rooftop of an office building in Pomona, officials said.

Donald Bach was flying a Piper PA-28 Cherokee plane from Fullerton Airport and was headed to Brackett Field in La Verne about 4:40 p.m., when he experienced engine problems, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Bach, of Fullerton, was forced to make an emergency landing and crashed on the building. Bach was the sole occupant of the plane.

No employees were inside the building, which was leased by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Bach suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital.

As a result of the crash, a hole remains in the rooftop of the building, CHP officials said.

TV images of the crash showed an orange-and-white plane with its nose smashed through the roof of a large one-story building.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, the CHP said.
