June 19--Large crowds trying to get out of the downtown area after Thursday's Blackhawks rally and parade were delayed after an incident involving the Blue Line.
Blue Line trains leaving downtown were running well behind schedule after a small fire broke out on the tracks, according to the Chicago Transit Authority.
Trains traveling toward O'Hare International Airport stopped around 3 p.m. when a fire was discovered on the northbound tracks near the Division Street stop, spokesman Jeff Tolman said.
Crews had to cut power while working out the issue, and services were temporarily suspended between the LaSalle Street and Damen Avenue stops. It was not immediately clear how the fire started.
No injuries were reported, but one train that had stopped before reaching Division had to be backed up to the Chicago Avenue station to let passengers off, Tolman said.
Trains were on the move again by around 3:40 p.m. but experiencing delays in both directions, Tolman said.
Additionally, a car crash occurred near the Dan Ryan and 18th Street around 3:45 p.m. Illinois State Police officials described it as a personal injury crash, but no other details were immediately available.
