BRIEF: Skydiving instructor killed in eastern San Diego County

June 20--An experienced skydiver died Friday afternoon in the Jamul area of eastern San Diego County, the Sheriff's Department said.

The skydiver made a "hard-landing" near Otay Lakes Road, officials said. The Skydive San Diego facility is nearby.

The county medical examiner Saturday identified the skydiver as Andrei Penz, 30, of San Diego, a skydiving instructor. Earlier reports said the man was 27.

The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Department. Witnesses said the man's parachute seemed to partially collapse, the medical examiner said.
